Île Saint-Louis & Notre-Dame
I’m Quentin, a couple photographer in Paris, creating timeless and intimate couple portraits on Île Saint-Louis and around Notre-Dame, shot first on film. At sunrise the island is the quietest place in central Paris: one street, two quays, and the cathedral right across the water.

Couple photoshoot on Île Saint-Louis: a village on the water, with Notre-Dame across the river
Île Saint-Louis is the smaller and quieter of the two islands in the Seine, and it has kept the scale of a village: one central street, rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île, lined with 17th-century façades, and a ring of tree-shaded quays around it. At the western tip, Place Louis Aragon opens onto the river in two directions. A few steps away, stairs lead down from the Quai d’Orléans to the water level, where Notre-Dame stands directly across the river: the full east end of the cathedral, without crossing a single bridge. For a couple photoshoot, that means village streets, open river views and one of the most recognisable monuments in the world, all within five minutes on foot.

Sunrise is the time to be here. The island is almost entirely residential, so early in the morning the street and the quays are empty: by late morning, rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île fills with visitors, and the bridges toward Notre-Dame get busy. In summer that means meeting around 6:30am; in winter the island stays quiet until mid-morning. Overcast and rainy days work well here too: the quays empty out, and grey river light renders beautifully on film. Whatever the forecast, I’ll confirm the best hour the week of the session.

We meet on the island itself, at Place Louis Aragon at the western tip: easy to find, three minutes’ walk from metro Pont Marie (line 7). The route I use starts there while the quays are still empty, takes the stairs down to the Quai d’Orléans for the view of Notre-Dame across the water, follows rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île through the centre, and finishes by crossing Pont Saint-Louis toward the cathedral. Everything is on foot and unhurried. You just have to show up together: I’ll handle the route.
My approach
How I photograph couples on Île Saint-Louis
The island is compact, so we walk it end to end: no fixed poses on a fixed spot, just the two of you moving through a place that feels private. The geography does half the work: the tip at Place Louis Aragon gives your portraits open water on both sides, the stairs to the Quai d’Orléans add a change of level with Notre-Dame behind you, and the narrow central street frames you between old façades. I’ll have you walk the quay hand in hand, pause at the parapet, sit on the steps by the water: small, true moments rather than performances.
I’m a film-first photographer, and the island suits film: stone, water and muted tones that hold up in any season. Expect gentle direction rather than posing: a prompt, a walk, a moment to yourselves while I keep shooting. The result is what I aim for everywhere: timeless and intimate couple portraits that feel true rather than staged.

A couple photographer in Paris who captures the way you are together
My name is Quentin, and I’m a couple photographer based in Paris. I’ve been drawn to photography for as long as I can remember, first as a way of paying attention to the world, then as a way of holding onto it. I’ve started countless sunrise sessions at the tip of Île Saint-Louis, and the short walk from Place Louis Aragon to Notre-Dame remains one of my favourite routes for photographing couples. I shoot first on film, photographing couples in all the corners of the city.
What sets my work apart isn’t a location or a pose: it’s connection. Before I ever raise the camera, I want to know what makes you laugh, how you found each other, the small details that are entirely your own. The more I understand your story, the more honestly I can tell it. My couple portraits in Paris are built on that intimacy: timeless and intimate images that feel true rather than staged, tender rather than performed.
Whether it’s a first shoot together, an engagement, or simply a reason to mark where you are right now, I bring an editorial eye and a documentary instinct to every session: capturing not just how you look, but how you feel when you’re with each other.
As a couple photographer in Paris, my hope is that years from now, these photographs still feel like you, proof of a timeless and intimate kind of love.

Your questions about a couple photoshoot on Île Saint-Louis
How much does a couple photoshoot on Île Saint-Louis cost?
Couple sessions on Île Saint-Louis start from €649 for a 2-hour portrait session: the same rate as anywhere in Paris. It includes preparation (route, timing, outfit advice), the shoot, and a private gallery of individually edited high-resolution images. Full details are on the pricing page.
What is the best time of day for a couple photoshoot on Île Saint-Louis?
Sunrise. The island is residential, so at first light the street and the quays are empty and stay that way for an hour or two. In summer that means meeting around 6:30am; in winter the island is quiet until mid-morning. Overcast and rainy mornings work too: fewer people, and soft even conditions that suit film.
Can we include Notre-Dame in our couple photoshoot?
Yes, without even planning a detour. From the stairs down to the Quai d’Orléans, the east end of Notre-Dame stands directly across the river: the classic view of the cathedral, with no crowds around you. If you want to get closer, Pont Saint-Louis connects the two islands in a two-minute walk and we finish the session by the cathedral itself.
Which spots on Île Saint-Louis are best for couple portraits?
My favourites: Place Louis Aragon at the western tip, with the river opening on both sides; the stone stairs leading down from the Quai d’Orléans to the water, facing Notre-Dame; rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île and its 17th-century façades; and Pont Saint-Louis, the small pedestrian bridge between the two islands. A single session covers all of them on foot.
How long does a couple session on Île Saint-Louis last, and how many photos do we get?
My couple sessions on Île Saint-Louis last for at least 2 hours: enough time to walk the island end to end at a relaxed pace, because great photography takes time, especially on film. I shoot first on film, and can shoot digital alongside if you prefer. For a 2-hour session on film you’ll receive around 25 individually edited high-resolution images, delivered in a private online gallery.
Do you photograph proposals and engagements on Île Saint-Louis?
Absolutely: the quays of Île Saint-Louis are among the most discreet places in central Paris to propose, with quiet spots by the water and Notre-Dame in view. I’ll help you pick the spot, stay hidden until the moment, and capture the surprise as it happens, then we continue with a full engagement session across the island.
