Proposal photographer
in Paris
I’m Quentin, a proposal photographer in Paris capturing surprise marriage proposals as they really happen. We plan the spot and the moment together in advance, I stay discreet until you ask the question, and I catch the reaction as it unfolds: no re-staging, no posing for the camera. Once you’ve both stopped shaking, we keep going with a full couple session to celebrate. All you have to think about is the words.

A surprise proposal in Paris, captured as it happens
A proposal session in Paris is built backwards from one moment: the question, and the face that answers it. As your proposal photographer in Paris, my job is to be invisible right up until that moment and to catch it honestly when it comes. We agree the spot and a simple plan in advance, I position myself where I have a clean line on both of you, and I photograph the real thing as it unfolds: the nerves, the question, the reaction, the first minutes after. Nothing is re-staged. A proposal only happens once, and the photographs should look like it actually did.

Staying unnoticed is something I’m comfortable with: alongside couples, I work as a street photographer, so blending into a Paris crowd and reading a moment before it happens is second nature. To the people around us I look like any other photographer working the city, which is exactly the point. You won’t be searching for me, and neither will your partner. I am simply there when it matters, far enough away to stay hidden, close enough to capture the emotion the instant it lands.

How discreet I stay and how I move on the day is entirely up to whoever is planning the proposal. Some want me fully hidden until an agreed signal; others prefer me roaming nearby under tourist cover, tracking you through the crowd; many want a mix. A favourite trick is to disguise the whole thing as a normal couple session: your partner thinks you’ve simply booked photographs together, and the proposal happens in the middle of it. That works beautifully, but you must let me know in advance so I’m ready for the moment rather than treating it as an ordinary shoot. We settle all of it before the day so there are no surprises for you, only for the person being proposed to. Whatever we choose, the priority never changes: protect the surprise, then capture a timeless and intimate set of images, tender rather than performed, true rather than staged.
The plan
How we plan your proposal in Paris
It starts with a conversation. Tell me roughly when, where and how you picture it, and I’ll help you turn that into a plan that actually works on the day. I know which Paris spots stay quiet at which hours, where the light is good, and where you can have a private moment without a tour group walking through the back of every frame. If you don’t have a spot in mind, I’ll suggest a few that suit the time of day and the feeling you want, from the classic view of the Eiffel Tower at first light to a quiet corner of a garden where it’s just the two of you. We agree a meeting point, a timing, and a signal so I always know the moment is coming.
On the day, everything is arranged so the person being proposed to notices nothing. I’m in position before you arrive, you bring them to the spot we chose, and I start shooting the moment it begins. As your proposal photographer in Paris, I give no direction during the proposal itself: that part is yours, and it should be unguarded. Only afterwards, once you’ve said yes and caught your breath, do I step in and the session turns into a relaxed celebration. The whole thing is planned in advance precisely so that, in the moment, neither of you has to think about me at all.
After the yes
After the yes: a celebration in Paris
The proposal is the beginning, not the end of the session. Once the question is answered, I reveal myself, we take a breath, and the shoot becomes a full couple session: the same relaxed walk through Paris I photograph every couple on, now with a ring on the finger and the news still sinking in. These first photographs as an engaged couple, made minutes after the question, are some of the most genuine I take all year. There’s nothing left to be nervous about, so you’re simply yourselves, and that’s exactly what the camera wants.
For the proposal itself I shoot mainly digital. A proposal happens once and lasts seconds, so I want the certainty of a perfect frame of the moment rather than anything left to chance. For the celebration session afterwards I’m happy to switch to my usual film-first approach if that’s the look you want: film renders skin, colour and emotion in a way digital still struggles to match, with a timeless quality that won’t date. Just tell me in advance which you’d prefer for that part. Across the proposal and the full session you’ll receive around 40 individually edited high-resolution images, delivered in a private online gallery. As a small bonus you also get a short edited 360 degree video of the proposal, filmed from my point of view: a behind-the-scenes keepsake of the moment as I saw it. Paris weather is never a problem either: overcast skies give soft, flattering light, and rain renders beautifully, adding mood you can’t plan for.

Meet your photographer
A couple photographer in Paris who captures the way you are together
My name is Quentin, and I’m a couple photographer based in Paris. I’ve been drawn to photography for as long as I can remember, first as a way of paying attention to the world, then as a way of holding onto it. I work on both digital and film, photographing couples in all the corners of the city.
What sets my work apart isn’t a location or a pose: it’s connection. Before I ever raise the camera, I want to know what makes you laugh, how you found each other, the small details that are entirely your own. The more I understand your story, the more honestly I can tell it. My couple portraits in Paris are built on that intimacy: timeless and intimate images that feel true rather than staged, tender rather than performed.
Whether it’s a first shoot together, an engagement, or simply a reason to mark where you are right now, I bring an editorial eye and a documentary instinct to every session: capturing not just how you look, but how you feel when you’re with each other.
As a couple photographer in Paris, my hope is that years from now, these photographs still feel like you, proof of a timeless and intimate kind of love.

Your questions about a proposal in Paris
How much does a proposal session in Paris cost?
A proposal session starts from 949 euros. It covers the planning (spot, timing, signal and positioning), the discreet capture of the proposal itself, and a full couple session afterwards to celebrate, delivered as a private online gallery of individually edited high-resolution images. As a little bonus, you also get a short edited 360 degree video of the proposal filmed from my point of view, a behind-the-scenes keepsake of the moment as I saw it. There are no hidden extras: the rate is the same wherever in Paris we shoot.
How long does it last and how many photos do we get?
The proposal moment is over in minutes, but the session lasts at least two hours so we can keep going and celebrate properly once you've said yes. I shoot the proposal itself mainly on digital to guarantee a perfect frame of the moment, then can switch to my film-first approach for the celebration if that's the look you want (just let me know beforehand). Across the proposal and the full session you'll receive around 40 individually edited high-resolution images, delivered in a private online gallery.
How do you stay hidden so the surprise isn't spoiled?
Discretion is something I'm comfortable with: alongside couples I work as a street photographer, so blending into a Paris crowd and reading a moment before it happens is second nature. To everyone around us I look like any other photographer working the city. I'm in position before you arrive and far enough away to stay unnoticed, close enough to capture the emotion the instant it lands.
How do we plan the spot and the signal?
It starts with a conversation. You tell me roughly when, where and how you picture it, and I help turn that into a plan that works on the day: which Paris spot, the best timing for light and quiet, a meeting point, and a simple signal so I always know the moment is coming. If you don't have a spot in mind, I'll suggest a few that suit the feeling you want. How discreet I stay on the day is entirely your call.
Can we keep shooting after the proposal?
Yes, and that's the best part. Once you've said yes and caught your breath, I step in and the shoot becomes a full couple session: a relaxed walk through Paris, now as an engaged couple. The first photographs taken minutes after the question are some of the most genuine I make all year.
What happens if it rains?
We shoot anyway, and the results are often the best of all. There's no such thing as bad weather for couple portraits: overcast light is soft and flattering, and rain renders beautifully on film, adding mood and texture. If a real storm is forecast we'll simply move to another day, but grey skies are never a reason to cancel.
