# How to propose at the Musée Rodin in Paris

The Musée Rodin is one of the few places in Paris where a proposal can look like an ordinary afternoon out. You buy two tickets, walk through the rooms, then step into a sculpture garden with the Invalides dome above the trees. Here is how I would plan a proposal there, using Paige and Reinhardt's in October 2026 as the example.

- Two hours from €899
- The proposal in the garden, then portraits by the Seine

/ Why the Musée Rodin

## Why the Musée Rodin works for a proposal

A museum visit is the easiest cover story in Paris. Nobody asks why you want to see Rodin's sculptures on a trip to Paris, and nobody expects a question in the middle of it.

The garden does the rest. It sits behind the museum on Rue de Varenne, enclosed by walls, so it feels calmer than the open esplanades at Trocadéro or along the Seine. Within a few minutes' walk you have a circular pond, tree-lined paths, sculptures in bronze and stone, and the gilded dome of the Invalides beyond the hedges. That gives you several backgrounds for the proposal without spending your time walking between them.

If you are still comparing places, my guide to [where to propose in Paris](https://carlierquentin.fr/where-to-propose-in-paris/) sets the Musée Rodin beside six other settings.

/ Tickets and hours

## Musée Rodin tickets and opening hours

The Musée Rodin is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6:30pm, and closed on Mondays. Last admission is at 5:45pm. The garden keeps the same hours as the museum. One standard ticket covers both the museum and the garden.

Check the [museum's visitor information](https://www.musee-rodin.fr/en/plan-your-visit/plan-your-visit-musee-rodin) for your date, since hours can change for events. A few things to plan around:

- Book your two tickets online before the day, so you are not standing in a queue with the ring in your pocket.
- Admission is free on the first Sunday of the month from October to March. Those days are busier: I would choose another day.
- The museum closes early on 24 and 31 December, and it is closed on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.
- I come in with my own ticket, like any other visitor. You don't need to arrange anything for me.

/ The day and the hour

## Choosing the day and the hour

A weekday is the simple choice. The garden is shared with other visitors, and fewer of them means more room around you when you kneel.

Paige and Reinhardt chose a Friday in October. I was in position at 5pm, and Reinhardt proposed at 5:15pm, in the last stretch of the afternoon before closing. By then the garden had thinned out.

In winter the light goes early, around 5pm in December, so I would move the proposal to the early afternoon. In spring and summer you have the whole afternoon to choose from.

Leave yourselves time in the museum first. It makes the visit feel real, and it gives you a natural moment to say "let's go and see the garden".

/ Where to propose

## Where to propose in the Musée Rodin garden

Beside the pond, with the Invalides dome behind.

The spot I come back to is the circular pond in the lower garden. Reinhardt proposed beside it. From the right angle, the Invalides dome rises above the hedge behind you, and the water keeps other visitors at a distance on one side.

Other good options:

- The tree-lined paths between the clipped trees, for a quieter, more enclosed frame.
- The steps of the museum, the Hôtel Biron, with the façade behind you.
- Beside a sculpture, if one means something to you both. The Thinker is the most famous, which also means people stop in front of it all day.

We choose the exact place before the day. I send you photographs of the garden, and we agree the spot, where I will wait and a nearby alternative in case a group has settled there. On the day you only need to walk to it.

/ Keeping it a surprise

## Keeping the proposal a surprise

For Paige, the plan was a museum visit. That is all she knew. Reinhardt knew where to walk, and I knew where to wait.

I am already in the garden before you arrive. I look like any visitor with a camera, which in a sculpture garden is most of them. We agree a simple signal beforehand, so I know you are about to stop, and I photograph from a distance until the question is asked. After the yes, I come over and introduce myself.

If friends are travelling with you, they can help: suggesting the museum, keeping the timing, or simply keeping the conversation going on the way there.

/ After the yes

## After the yes, the second hour outside the museum

![Paige and Reinhardt holding hands on the steps of the Musée Rodin.](https://carlierquentin.fr/_astro/paige-reinhardt-rodin-l1090746.BOYFTf4W_rPx62.avif)

On the steps of the museum, after the proposal.

Take a moment first. There is a bench beside the pond, and nobody needs to move straight away. Then we stay in the garden for a while for your first portraits together and a few closer photographs of the ring. I guide you through it, so you don't need to know how to pose.

This is why I recommend two hours. The museum closes at 6:30pm, so a late-afternoon proposal leads naturally into a second hour outside. We leave the garden and walk to Pont Alexandre III, with the Seine below and a view of the Eiffel Tower. For me it is the most beautiful bridge in Paris, and it gives your photographs a second setting that looks nothing like the first. The walk is part of our time together.

The garden and the river make two different sets of photographs: one quiet and enclosed, the other open, with the city around you. More on that stretch of the river in my guide to [couple photographs along the Seine](https://carlierquentin.fr/couple-photographer-quais-de-seine/).

If you would rather sit down first, there is a café in the garden.

/ Having it photographed

## Having your Musée Rodin proposal photographed

I photograph proposals in the Musée Rodin garden with the museum's permission. We confirm the tickets, the spot and the timing together before your session.

A two-hour proposal session is €899: the proposal and first portraits in the garden, then the walk to Pont Alexandre III and the Seine. Museum tickets are separate. I photograph the proposal itself digitally, and film can be added for the portraits after the yes.
